Available in a variety of colors such as black and gold, the Suunto T3 is an extremely attractive sports watch. It can keep time in 12 and 24 hour formats. It also records the date, and has an alarm and backlight. Additionally, it has a stopwatch with a maximum of 50 split times, and the capacity to handle interval training, with specific warm-up and cooldown periods.
Once you have added some basic data about yourself, the T3 will present you with three target heart rate zones for your workouts, beginning with the first zone for basic fitness and weight loss, and working up to the third zone, which is designed to increase your maximum endurance and cardiovascular capacity. The T1 has this feature as well, but what it does not have is the ability to monitor each workout's overall Training Effect (TE). TE ranks each type of workout with an overall number illustrating the session's overall impact on your body. The higher the value, the greater the improvement that will be seen in your body's maximum capabilities. However, the T3 also assists you in finding the balance that is necessary in this type of workout: every difficult workout must be balanced with an easier one, allowing your body adequate time to rest. If you are ready to begin gathering additional information about your workouts, the T3 can grow with you. It is compatible with all of Suunto's POD sensors, such as the GPS and Cadence PODs. The GPS POD allows you to track your speed and distance during workouts, and the Cadence POD, for cyclists, measures the tempo at which you pedal. Suunto also manufactures a Foot POD, and a PC POD for transferring your saved workout data to your personal computer. All of the PODs, and the chest strap included with the T3, utilize ANT technology for data transfer, eliminating interference and crosstalk from other devices that may be nearby.
