The RS800 is a full featured assistant for any workout program, and functions as something of a virtual personal trainer. Based on your current level of physical fitness, which the unit will gauge for you, the included ProTrainer 5 software will design a personalized workout program for you, specifying when and how long to work out. As you progress through the program, the RS800 will gradually adjust the challenge level to keep you steadily improving. The RS800 will use the data produced by your body such as heart rate and calories burned to track your progress, giving you easy access to various graphs and reports when the data is uploaded into the ProTrainer 5 software.
As stated above, the RS800CX package is intended for cyclists. To this end, it is compatible with all of Polar's WIND cycle attachments. This includes the WIND cadence sensor, speed sensor, G3 GPS sensor, and power output sensor. Each of these provides a particular type of data to improve your cycling performance:
* CS Cadence Sensor: measures pedaling rate in terms of revolutions per minute, and graphs your RPMs against your heart rate and speed.
* CS Speed Sensor: records current, average, and maximum speeds as you cycle.
* G3 GPS Sensor: measures both speed and distance traveled during your workout.
* Power Output Sensor: calculates the effort expended during your workout.

Although the RS800CX comes with none of the WIND sensors, it would have been difficult for Polar to have come up with a package that would appeal to everyone. Compatibility with the WIND sensors gives the RS800CX just a $20 higher suggested price tag than the RS800. The idea is that the customer will augment the purchase of the RS800CX with the WIND sensor of his or her choice, allowing for an experience that is tailored to him or her.
