The Polar RS100 is an entry level heart rate monitor, marketed as a first heart rate monitor for those who are new to the world of serious exercise. Being aware of your target heart rate and maintaining that heart rate during your workout are the keys to seeing the quickest possible results from a workout program, and the RS100 is priced attractively enough that it is an easy purchase for new athletes. It is able to monitor your heart rate with the same high level of accuracy found in Polar's more expensive products.
The RS100 contains a simple mechanism for estimating your ideal target heart rate, then tracks your heart rate when you exercise, notifying you both audibly and visually when you are in your ideal zone for maximum calorie burning. It has a large, easily-readable display, and also functions as a wrist watch. it tracks calorie expenditure, and for runners, the RS100 is equipped with multiple timers, and can track the number of calories that are burned with each lap around a track.
The Polar RS100 Heart Rate monitor has a suggested retail price of $119.95, and should be compared to the Polar F11 prior to making a purchase decision. Although the RS100 is an excellent heart rate monitor, the F11 retails for only $60 more and contains full virtual personal trainer functionality, and a multitude of features that the RS100 does not. The RS100 is an excellent heart rate monitor. If this is the only feature that you need, or if you are unable to afford anything that is more expensive, it is highly recommended. However, the RS100 is not a full featured fitness computer like the F11. If you are able to afford the $60 price difference, you are likely to be happier choosing the F11 as an alternative purchase over the RS100.
