Nike Triax C5 Heart Rate Monitor

For more than 30 years, Nike has been famous as a provider of athletic equipment that is as stylish as it is functional. Their recent entry into the heart rate monitor market with the Triax fitness watch series has made a splash among athletes who love the products for their reliability, simple interfaces, and features rivaling those of some much more expensive fitness computers. The Triax C5 is Nike's midrange entry into this market, providing the same ease of use that the C3 has become famous for, while including the additional functionality required of a more serious training computer.

Like the C3, the Nike Triax C5 uses analog coding for its included heart rate monitor strap. Although interference is a possibility with analog transmission, the benefit is a high level of compatibility. When using the C5, your heart rate will automatically appear on the screen of many treadmills, stationary bikes, and other gym equipment. However, where the C3 only monitors your heart rate and displays no other workout information, the C5 allows you to enter multiple target heart rate zones, and will then alert you when you are outside the zone of your choice. This can bring an additional level of effectiveness to your workout program; at lower target zones, you can train for overall fitness and weight loss, while at higher zones, you can increase your maximum level of endurance. An additional benefit for extended workouts is the ergonomic design of the chest strap; it does not slide down the chest during workouts as some other straps tend to do.

As would be expected of any product made by Nike, a great deal of thought has been put into the design of the C5. It has a crystal glass face which is resistant to scratching, can be lit during night workouts with the push of a button, and is highly water resistant and safe to wear while showering. Unfortunately, however, the C5 does not have the ability to save the data collected during your workouts, such as average heart rates, and lap timings. If these features are necessary for you, consider the slightly more expensive Triax C8 as an alternative.
